QUALITY LAB TECHNICIAN – SIGMA September 23rd 2021

Type – full-time (Days)

Responsibilities:
• Perform metallurgical tests using lab equipment: tensile, yield, elongation, Vickers hardness test
• Prepare samples for metallurgical testing
• Documents and interprets test results, maintains records and prepares reports
• Ability to perform reverse engineering/scanning would be an asset
• CMM programming and operation experience would be an asset

Qualifications:
• Heat Treating educational background and/or experience
• Knowledge of CQI-9 and ASTM Standards
• Working experience of metallurgical testing equipment and hot stamp or heat treat testing
• Excellent interpersonal, and organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Computer proficiency including MS Office and Outlook
• Database and spreadsheet experience required
• Experience in destruct and non-destructive testing
• Knowledge / work experience in Polyworks
• Experience in CMM set up operations and programming would be an asset
• Understanding of engineering drawings and tolerances would be an asset
• Use of / experience with measurement scanners would be an asset
• 2-3-year diploma in mechanical engineering/technician would be an asset
• CAD knowledge and skills for reverse engineering would be an asset

We are looking for motivated individuals for our in house 4-year Tool and Die Apprenticeship training program.

Year 1

-Bench working techniques

-Trade Math

-Metal Cutting Techniques

Year 2

-Department Rotations

Year 3 and 4

-Assembly Department Placement

-Working with experienced mentors

-Tryout Department Placement

-Working with experienced mentors

College

-St Clair College (Windsor, On)

-Evening classes part time for 3 years

Upon successful completion of in-depth training, apprentices will be offered a position as Tool & Die Maker in one of the MDG facilities earning competitive wages with great opportunities for further career development and advancement.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Grade 12 diploma
  • Driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle for travel between plants
  • Working knowledge of safety standards of equipment
  • Good attendance record
  • Self starter, demonstrates initiative
  • Ability to work efficiently as a part of a team, as well as independently
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and troubleshooting attributes
